Hello there! My name is Gynai Kristol. I was born and raised in Los Angeles, CA, but currently based in Brooklyn, NY. Film has always been in my life in some shape or form growing up, whether that was me in front of the tv watching Michael Jackson’s Moonwalker for the umpteenth time; me watching every single episode of a behind the scenes show of a music video being made; or me listening to music while contemplating ways to form concepts in my head for them. On top of that, my grandfather was a photographer and inadvertently had quite the influence on me at young age. The camera and film world had always been intriguing for me and a constant creative motivator since she was a little girl, and finally in my college years, I purchased my first camera, a Canon Rebel t3i. In 2015 I decided to move to New York to further pursue my passion in film and attended New York Film Academy for their one year documentary program.
After graduating from UCLA in 2013, I began working with various creatives in and around LA, documenting artists’ processes as they created their albums, prepared for their first shows, and went through life. In 2015 I decided to move to New York to further pursue my passion in film, attending New York Film Academy for their one-year documentary program. While in that program, not only did I learn more in depth how to produce in film & TV, but also had the opportunity to create my own short documentaries.
As a filmmaker, I wear many hats from director to writer to producer to editor, and sometimes even actor (though I use that term loosely for my acting skills). The world around me, my personal experiences and those of folks close to me all serve as inspiration for my ideas and video projects that I produce.
